Gentle lifting without a scalpel – thread lifting for natural tightening

As we age, our skin loses elasticity and tone. Facial contours gradually sag, and the cheeks and jawline lose their clear definition. Many people desire a fresher, firmer appearance during this phase – but without surgical intervention or long downtime.

Thread lifting offers an innovative solution: Using fine, dissolvable threads, the skin can be visibly tightened and lifted – without the need for a scalpel. The treatment provides an immediate lifting effect while simultaneously stimulating the body's own collagen production. The result: a more youthful, natural appearance with long-lasting effects.

Who is a facial thread lift suitable for?

Thread lifting is ideal for women and men who notice the beginnings of sagging skin and desire a firmer contour – without a surgical facelift. This method is particularly suitable for:

  • sunken cheeks (“sagging cheeks”)

  • receding jaw or chin line

  • sunken facial areas

  • light to moderate wrinkles in the cheek and lower jaw area

Thread lifting can also be used to tighten the neck or eyebrow area. The method is particularly suitable for patients between approximately 35 and 60 years of age—that is, in the phase when the skin's structure is weakening but not yet severely sagging.

How does a facial thread lift work?

Preparation

Before the procedure, Dr. Christian Graß will personally meet with you for a detailed consultation. Together, we will clarify your aesthetic preferences, assess your skin structure, and discuss which areas need to be treated. Depending on your needs, different thread types and techniques are used – always individually tailored.

Special preparation is usually not necessary. However, it is recommended to avoid alcohol and blood-thinning medications for a few days before treatment.

The treatment

The thread lift is performed on an outpatient basis in our practice and takes approximately 45 to 60 minutes, depending on the extent of the treatment. After a thorough cleansing and disinfection of the skin, a local anesthetic is applied to make the treatment as comfortable as possible.

Dr. Christian Graß then precisely inserts the absorbable threads under the skin using a fine cannula. These threads – usually made of polydioxanone (PDO) – gently lift sunken structures while simultaneously stimulating new collagen production. The result is a visible, yet very natural, lifting effect immediately after treatment.

After treatment

Immediately after the thread lift, slight swelling, redness, or minor bruising may occur. These usually subside within a few days. Massages, intense facial expressions, exercise, and strong sun exposure should be avoided for the first 1–2 weeks.

The threads dissolve on their own within about six months, but the tightening effect lasts significantly longer because the body's own tissue regeneration is activated. In many cases, the results are visible for up to 18 months.

What are the advantages of a thread lift?

Thread lifting is a gentle and highly effective method for facial tightening – completely non-surgical. Key benefits include:

  • Immediately visible lifting effect

  • Stimulation of collagen production

  • No surgery, no anesthesia

  • Short treatment time, no downtime

  • Natural result without excessive changes

  • Repeatable and easy to combine with other procedures (e.g. hyaluronic acid, Botox)

Risks of thread lifting

Like any medical treatment, thread lifting carries certain risks – however, these are very low when performed professionally by experienced specialists.

Possible side effects include temporary swelling, bruising, or tightness. In rare cases, slight asymmetry or thread displacement may occur. Dr. Christian Graß uses a precise, tissue-sparing technique to keep side effects to a minimum.

Allergic reactions to the materials used are extremely rare, as only biocompatible, fully absorbable threads are used.
